Weinnman 500 Brake Set-up

How do you tighten up the securing bolt without one of the brake blocks touching the wheel rim? My bike mechanics book suggests that there is a flat sided washer that you can get a slim spanner over to hold the brakes central....but there isn't on my set up! Any ideas?

Some Weinnman brake spindles have an Hexagonal front end on the spindle.
They come with a spanner in the box to centre the brake.

But its not very good.

I hold the brake over to one side if its rubbing on the other side.
Also popping the spring out from the brake and bending it up will give more spring on that side.
As the springs might be uneven after time.

The Weinmann 500 doesn't have that hexagonal fitting. For those particular Weinmann brakes, you can 'make do' with a suitable Allen bolt held in Vice-grips or suchlike.
