ISIS Bottom Bracket tool fit
I'm in a bind, and a fading memory is doing me no favors either.
I installed an FSA Titanium ISIS bottom bracket on my Specialized a few years ago, and after a few years of use, the BB started to protest by offering a 'clunk' on every rotation. A little research revealed that my ISIS BB outlived probably 95% of the installs, as the design is flawed. However, I have this nice FSA ISIS carbon crankset, so I need to stick with the system. So, I take out my BB tool to remove the FSA and it doesn't fit! It will not fit past the shoulder on the spindle behind the splines- the inside diameter of the tool is too small, and will not allow engagement of the splines in the lock ring for the BB. How I put it on in the first place is beyond me (that fading memory...)- my guess is that I had another tool at the time, and replaced it with this new LIFU tool that doesn't fit. It also doesn't fit over the collar on the replacement BB (a Token Titanium/carbon piece). The OD of the new BB is 936mm, (the FSA is a 'touch' larger), and the ID of the tool is 920mm. Apart from having a machine shop enlarge the ID of the tool, does anyone know of a tool that will work here? Has anyone else run into this issue? |
