Need Rear derailleur advice.
Ok, here is the deal. I have a Gary Fisher Wahoo that i just upgraded with Deore derailleur's. I would like to put the Alivio rear derailleur on my Gary fisher Tiburon path bike that now has a Acera rear derailleur on it. I know its not a major upgrade but if it will work its a upgrade. My ? is will the Alivio work on that bike, it is a seven speed vs a 8 speed and has a 34 tooth granny gear. I have been looking online at many differt path bikes and lower end MTN bikes and alll the ones with the 34 tooth granny gear have the Acera or Tourney rear derailleur. Can I use the Alivio or not?? Somebody please help!!

The speed doesn't matter, the shifters decide how many speeds you have, not the derailer. Derailers are dumb, they just do what the shifters tell them to do.
A 34 tooth cog shouldn't be a problem.

Off the top of my head... it should be fine. The movement of the RD is governed by the shift lever... not the RD itself. Thus, if your shifters match your rear sprocket cluster and move the RD laterally to match. It would seem the Wahoo and the Tiberon are both MTB's... so the RD cage should have enough reach to take up any chain slack. There really should be no problem regarding that aspect.
Okay... the RD may have come from a 7 speed and you are going to fit it to an 8 speed? It could be the RD may not have the reach even when the upper and lower limit screws are backed off? If it is an 8 speed going on a 7 speed cluster... it should be a doddle.

The rear derailleur "Alivio" that I want to use was being used for a 8 speed. The bike i would like to install it on is a 7 speed. Again the reason I ask the ? is because all the bikes I have seen with that big back granny gear use the Acera or Tourney derailleur's which are very low end, but also have much bigger cogs than the higher end derailleur's. But on the other end they also have a shorter arm. I am by no means a bike tech, thats why I am asking the ?. And thanks for the quick responces.

As mentioned it'll be fine. You just need to use it with a 7 speed shifter and adjust the limit screws to avoid over shifting.

Again thanks, I aprish the responses, I will prob just take it to my local bike shop and have them throw it on for me. They installed both the front and back Deore ones on my MTN bike for 10 bucks. Not a bad deal. Beats me getting frustrated trying to get it adjusted.
