Stem Adaptor is too wide for headset

So I am looking to get rid of my old Quill. And replace it with a Stem Adaptor. Nashbar had one for 9.99 last week so I picked it up. Only thing is it is too wide.
Here is the headset that I have.

Any thoughts?

The adapter you bought is a 1.125"/1.125".

What you needed to buy was a 1"/1.125" adapter. Nashbar has been out of that size for a while.
