concave braking surface

Greetings one and all.....I have an Araya model PX-45 700c rim from the late '80's or early '90's with very consistent concave braking surfaces. My net wanderings have turned up the fact that Araya made some rims with concave braking surfaces intentionally. Does anyone know if this particular rim was designed this way, or is it worn out and should be replaced? I'd prefer not to find out while on the road....
Thanks!
