Suntour friction silence chain recommendation

My commuter/all-rounder is an 86 Nishiki Riviera GT, currently running the (stock) Suntour LePree rear derailler (the funky-cool one with 3 pulleys) with friction shifting. I recently switched out the 5 speed freewheel for a 6 (Suntour) and replaced the chain. Now, I'm kinda anal about noises and I like a silent drivetrain. May be unreasonable, but seems to me like noise is friction and less noise = more efficient. My drivetrain is noisy, specifically the rear derailleur/sprocket area just makes noise. Not grinding, not out of allignment noise, just chain in contact and running over whatever noise. I keep my drivetrain clean and lubed, so that's not it, and when it's freshly lubed it's quiet, but that lasts for maybe one day (20 miles).

I'm thinking maybe it's the cheap Chinese chain I put on? Or maybe the fact that I haven't replaced the pulleys? Thoughts? I'm especially curious about what chains people recommend on 5/6/7 speed friction set-ups since this isn't the only bike I have, and my future plans include more of a similar like.

Well, there's anal and then there's anal. It's awfully hard to judge not being able to hear it.

I can't tell from your post if the drivetrain got noisier after you upgraded it.
