Cleaning Rear Derailleur
I removed it from the bike. Anything I need to be worried about?
Should I just use soap and water? A degreaser? Can I soak it?

Soak it in a hot water/degreaser-type dish detergent (i.e. Dawn) solution and scrub with an old toothbrush. Works surprising well for greasy dirt.

Don't soak it, but any of those will work. I'm a fan of the simple soap, water, toothbrush approach.

uses degrease . i wouldn't soak it. if you do it will remove the grease in the pivot points and it hard to replace . just use a rag with the degreaser. then oil the points.

+1 on the Dawn. Simple green if it is really bad, but Dawn will handle all the crud I can put on my dérailleurs.
