Hub spoke holes too rough for reliable wheel build?
I have a set of 36h Campagnolo Record hubs that I picked up with the intent of having them built with some new Mavic Open Pro rims for a sturdy set of wheels to use on my two Gazelles. Upon recieving the hubs I am now a bit worried (as is the wheel builder) that the gouges around the spoke holes may cause problems. Opinions? Suggestions? I thought of using some 400 grit sand apper to knock down the roughest of the edges, and maybe a bit of dremel work to just touch up the holes themselves. Not so much it would significantly alter the thickness of the flange or widen the hole, just to smooth out the rough edges.

I hadn't thought about the spoke head washers. That should be useful especially if he's sanding the flanges down and uses DT spokes because they have longer shoulders than they used to.

Don't worry about it. Aluminum vs high grade stainless - no contest. What you should do (according to sources) is to use the dings and dents to orientate the new spokes (outbound/inbound, leading/trailing) as they were in the old lace-up.

That is the plan. I need to verify what the original lacing was before I buy spokes (urbanknight is doing the building... if I ever get these hubs to him! )

It looks as if these hubs have been laced more than once with the lacing changing at some point.
What I would do: use them is is or knock down the burrs if they're too pronounced. washers wouldn't be a bad idea either.
My advice to others: don't do it. send the hubs to me for further inspection and testing (I'll dispose of them for you as well).

I'd be willing to trade that pair of 36h to anyone who has a good condition 32h rear Record hub around without a mate. My wife would appriciate it as well as it would mean one less spare wheel hanging around the apartment as I already have a good front wheel.
