need some frame painting advice

I'm trying to spruce up a Raleigh Technium road bike (say mid 80's vintage). The frame's got some surface rust and scratches. Did the Naval Jelly thing, got the rust off, bought some touch up paint in a shade that looked pretty darn near the frame color -- but it wasn't! turned out it was much darker, proceeded to touch up with it anyway and now my frame looks polka dotted. what now? I could cruise the dollar store looking for the shade of nail polish that only a 12 year old girl would find attractive or is there a better way? this is my first experience with trying to deal with scratches and surface rust. Any advice is much appreciated. thanks!

Matching paint is pretty tough, spcially with old paints. If u wanna do a good job and can afford it, stripping the whole thing and repaint from scratch is the way to go.

Trouble is, Techniums are half aluminum and half steel bonded together. Chemical stripping may damage the bonding.
Those bikes are troublesome to re-paint, I suspect.
