shopping for a repair stand

I'm in the market for a decent home repair stand that I can use for cleaning my bikes and doing basic tune ups (but I don't need a pro or super duper model). I have a carbon fiber Colnago, a steel fixed gear track bike, and an aluminum beater. The two metal bikes I can simply clamp the seatpost, but the Colnago has a carbon fiber, oval shaped seat post, so I'm not sure if getting just a regular Park or similar stand is going to work. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I recently got thishttps://cgi.ebay.com/Ultimate-SPORT-MECHANIC-Repair-stand-NEW-Buy-It-Now_W0QQitemZ280205745458QQihZ018QQcategoryZ27953QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem One of the few times where I thought I got more than I paid for. Well designed, smooth mechanisms, very heavy duty.

this is an ongoing problem,.....

yes the search feature will give you THOUSANDS of threads, posts, and words, matching your search keyword,.....

so many in fact, it's just easier to post another question, and deal with all the "use the search feature, dummy" answers, and get the three nice people on this forum to answer it, so you don't have to read through 76,000 posts to find a paragraph that relates to your subject.

so I thank you for your typical response, but I'm sure if I do a search, and get a billion hits, I'm just going to post new thread, like the OP

have a nice day

I respond a lot and try to help with every reasonable question. I also really, really appreciate the Bike Forums, and especially the bicycle mechanics section. Because of this, I respect the forum rules. >>https://www.bikeforums.net/bicycle-mechanics/338432-new-posters-please-read.html.

Sorry if I offended you by directing the OP to a place with billions and billions of hits related to his subject.

And BTW, can anyone tell me which chain lube is the best????

If I might hitch a ride on your thread? I have a 6"x6" post in the middle of my garage/bike area. Is there a repair stand type clamp I can just bolt to the post?

Thank you for the informative post that still did not answer the OP's question.

My take: If you can afford a carbon Colnago, you can afford a decent stand. No, you don't have to go crazy with it, but don't buy the cheapest POS available. That said, it's hard to go wrong with a Park Tool stand.

LOL OHB!

To boot, jb spent all that time pi$$'n on your post and offered nothing to help the OP. What a troll, lol.

I'd vote for search. If BF search is down, you can still use Google and limit to a domain. In the case of BF you can limit it to a forum also:
I usually respond also, and do not fault the OP. I can offer more help by pointing them to the search function than trying to recapture all the thoughts that have been posted previously.

ken,
I'd look at Park and Ultimate offerings for clamps only. I think you will be limited to their pro models but they are some very nice clamps.

Wow - I should have mentioned in my original post that yes, I did a google search and a thread search in bike forums. I found a lot of information about stands but none answered my question specifically. My specific question relates to a carbon fiber, oval shaped seat tube and which stand has a clamp that is most appropriate. I appreciate the google tip for limiting searches to bike forums. I usually on add "bikeforums" in my google search - adding the entire URL is an improvement.

Park sells a couple of wall mount and bench mount stands that you could bolt to the side or the top of the post. I think Minoura does (or did) as well. If the post is securely grounded, I would definitely use it in this way. The only draw back is that if it was bolted on, it could not be rotated around the post, like on a good shop stand.

Park sells expensive shop quality ones (I see them on Ebay ALL the time for something like $150), and also a very good home use one (also on Ebay ALL the time) for $80. For my own needs, I think the home use one would be just fine in this application.

Look at the Park PCS9, mine works great for me. Less than $100 on sale.

Check out the first DIY repair stand on this post. There are a bunch of stands you can make yourself for pretty cheap, but the stand-bolted-to-a-wooden-post is the one I'm going to make, too.

Performance sells the X-shaped "Spin Doctor" stand.
https://www.performancebike.com/shop/...tegory_ID=4216
$90 now, but often on sale for nearer to $50.

Nashbar has it on sale for $54.95 right now ...
https://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?c...ylight%20Deals

Doesn't do everything that the clamp-to-seatpost ones do, but plenty good for holding a bike above the floor.

Looks like either the Ultimate sport mechanic or the Park Tool home mechanic provide what I'm looking for. Park Tool's website does mention that their clamp is designed for odd-shaped tubes, which makes me think to lean in that direction. Plus its only about 100.00.
Thanks for the input.

As long as it allows you to adjust the deraillers and crank the bike, what more do you need? BTW, what does the II have over the I?
