Sidewall tear
Hello guys, Is it possible to repair a less-than half inch tear in a sidewall of a 700x23 tire with a tube patch? Is there a problem I am not forseeing?

No.
New tire. |
The pressure will rip that patch apart rapidly. Sorry but it is new tire time.
Any time the tire cords in a bike tire are broken the tire will fail. Most puncturing objects slip between the cords. Sometimes a single broken cord or maybe even two will hold for a significant amount of time. Unfortunately that is "borrowed time". |
They say that a US dollar bill will repair a sidewall in a pinch. Seems that it would since it's linen-based.

A boot patch is what is supposed to be used for temporary fixes to get you home. But a 1/2 inch tear in a sidewall is new tire time.

If you just think of the pressure in the tube, a half inch space is way more than it needs to start a bubble out through the hole that then expands almost instantly until it goes blam. Not that I was intelligent enough to figure that out until I saw it happen. "Oh well," I always say, "my whole life is like that. Why should today be any different?"
