dura ace pedal problem

i have some dura ace pedals that are 4.5 years old and have about 12k miles on them

the right side pedal (the side i always unclip at stops etc) has developed some annoying clicking. replacing the cleats helped for exactly one ride. trying the same shoe on my other bike that only has about 7k miles on the pedals confirms that the problem is with the pedal and not the shoe or cleat.

i can crank the tension multiple clicks on the small adjustment feature on the back of the pedal and that helps for a while but now it is to the point that it occurs half way through a ride. hills tend to exacerbate the problem

is there something simple that can be done? or do i need to replace the pedals?

I have to admit to not knowing anything about those pedals but can they be serviced (bearings, lube, torque). If so I'd start with lube and torque of the spindle, move to bearings if the problem persists. Frankly it my be that replacement with a new set may be more cost effective than repairing an old set.

Just my .02...

You might want to verfiy that it is indeed the pedal before going further. Swap it out for something else, ride it and see.

These are dura ace pedals. The rebuild kit would have to cost quite a lot before it would make buying a new pair, economical. Although the good news is that latest gen 105 spd-sl pedals can be had for ~ $55 SHIPPED from PBK. They are a huge improvement over the older spd-sl design.
