Creaky Crank?

My 2008 Specialized Sirrus Pro has about 3000 miles on it. It recently developed a creaking in the crank area when I push the bike forward with the pedals. It does not creak with light pedaling or coasting.

I took it back to my LBS and they tried using teflon tape on some threads in the bottom bracket area and this seems to have reduced it a bit but not eliminate it. FWIW it is more pronounced during my evening commutes (warmer) as compared with the morning commutes.

One theory is that the carbon frame and metal crank parts are expanding/contracting at different rates and causing this to happen; as I mentioned it only started after a few thousand miles. The crankset model is FSA Gossamer MegaExo, 2-piece.

Any ideas on the cause and/or a cure would be much appreciated.

Try a different set of pedals first. If it still creaks, then you can eliminate the pedals. I am saying this because having owned a bike shop I used to rip cranks apart looking for bb problems, when the real problem was the pedals. After that, anything is possible. It could be the interaction of 2 different metals as suggested.

Pedals... or shoes, actually.

In my case, my right shoe is squeaking like crazy. When I'm fed up, I apply a bit of oil on the cleat. It works... until it rains.

The only problem with my solution is that it is just like washing one's car exterior: no matter how sunny it is, it will rain soon thereafter.
