Which rim/tire combo to get?

I have a Ross Eurotour single-speed coaster brake bike. I can't find a listing of the rim size, but the tires are 26 - 1 3/8". I want to switch to alloy wheels and preferrably thinner tires. Further, what size tubes should I get? What are my best budget options? I'm particularly looking for things I can buy on Nashbar, so I can take advantage of the two coupons running today.

Edit: Or should I look to ebay for used wheel/tire combos? I just essentially want thinners tires and alloy wheels.

Any 26" rim that takes tires down to 26x1.25 will be good enough. Your standard department store mountain bike style wheels will probably only go down to 26x1.5.

26 x 1.x is not equivalent to something written in fractions like your current tires 26 x 1 3/8. Your tube size should be in the range the tube specifies for your tire. For example if you have a 26.1.95 tire and the tube says 26x1.95-2.1 then you're fine.

Generic 26" joytech wheels on some sort of Alex rims are available online for as low as $25-$30.
