Really annoying...

I got this stupid thing going on... When I jump that noise comes out. And what noise? Chain hitting frame. I don't know how is that part of the bike called but its obviously on the rear wheel and I seriously hate that sound. What do you think? Make the chain smaller (about one piece) so its more stretched? I never tried that but I might and I don't even know how to make it smaller :-). Each month a buy and put there new cloth, but it's destroyed in few jumps. Any ideas? Thx.

Uhhhh..... that's why they sell a thing called a Chainstay Protector/shield. It's STILL gonna make noise, but not as objectionable. Look for carbon or other "softer" material.

Taking out a link is not going to do didly.

When they invent a non-metal drive belt.

Or... as u land, put pressure on the pedal as if u want to take off the second u hit pavement. Try it.

try wrapping the chainstay in an old inner tube pull it tight as you wrap it.
use zip ties or electical tape to finnish it off. works great a a cheap and effective Chainstay Protector.

here is a sloppy version i found

if u wanna cleaner look, visit your local hardware store and at the plumbing department they have these foam tubes that are used to wrap water pipes and insulate for winter. 4r sure there, noise gone.

Since most likely yer landing on your 9-3, all u have to do is to put a little more pressure your right foot than left.

I mean sorry not the tube but the protection.. You have the protection on the top bar of the frame too. Why? Under the chain is good but on the top of the chain...? I think that the chain doesnt go there when you jump right?

He wrapped his upper stays as well most likely for crash protection to help avoid scratching or gouging the tubes.

The inner tube wrapping around the chain stay works super. Sacrifice a tube or go to a shop and get one of the flat tubes out of the garbage. Then slit it so you have a long band around an inch wide. Wrap the stay so it overlaps by almost 1/2 so it's mostly two layers thick. If you start a few inces from one end and to to the end and then back over itself you only need tape or zip ties at the last end.

I also found on one of my bikes that it wasn't the chain slapping the stay but the derailleur itself that was flipping up and smashing into the stay. I re-wrapped the rubber strip so it was over the spot the derailleur had been hitting and no more ugly sounding CLACK. Just a "bump" from hitting the rubber.

yea it works super. when i was putting the tube on the chainstay I realized that the derailleur was really stratched on one place and then i discovered that its smashing into the chainstay too. And you are right the derailleur is smasching there too.

sorry not my bike just one I found on the interwebs to illustrate my point. I noted it was a sloppy version.
My bike has the BCRider version: overlap 1/2 and tape only one end.

must be a shimano derailler SRAM has a stiffer spring and it wont clank around as much.

Cut and resize an old inner tube on your chain stay (use zip ties to hold in place). Wrap it twice for better protection. Cheap and effective.
