Shimano WH-600 compatible with Campy 9 speed?
Hello,
I have a set of Shimano WH-R600 wheels that I would like to put on my 2002 Bianchi Campione with 9 speed Mirage. Is there a Campy freewheel body that will fit the Shimano hub? I searched the forums and google, but can't seem to find the answer. Thanks.

No, no one makes a Campy compatible freehub body for Shimano wheels/hubs. You have two choices:
1. Buy an aftermarket Campy spaced but Shimano splined cassette. IRD makes some but they are expensive and the shift quality is not as good as either Campy or Shimano.
2. Get a J-Tek Shiftmate (www.jtekengineering.com) to make your Campy shifters and rear derailleur shift properly with a Shimano cassette. These are only $35 and work very well. I'm using one to make 10-speed Campy Ergo shifters match a 9-speed Shimano cassette and rear derailleur and the shifting is excellent.

American Classic makes a 10s campy cassette that will fit your freehub. It's possible that they used to make a 9s and they're out there.
Or, swap out the index gear in your Ergo shifter and go to 10s as well.

Ok, so it sounds like I'd need to
1) convert the 9 speed campy to 10 speed and,
2) get the Shiftmate (model #1) to mate the Campy derailluer with the Shimano 10 speed cassette
Thanks for the replys, I can have a chat with my LBS now

I think I've read other posts that Campy 9 and Shimano 9 are so close that they work pretty well together. Since you already have everything, why not just try it and see ??

I talked to the LBS mech and he suggested a 9 speed conversion cassette for the Shimano wheel. Apparently, there's a wheel place that sells it for ~$150.
I asked about conversion to a 10 speed, with the shiftmate approach. It sounds like I'd need a new (to the bike) rear derailluer and small chain ring and replace the Ergo index "cam". And there's labor of course...
I might try another shop, just to see what the mech says without my "offering" any ideas.
