Jeep Comanche Bike
 

I have a Jeep Comanche bike that the kickstand has been taken off of, I think I have found all the parts but I need to know how to assemble it and/or where I can buy another one. Also my gears aren't working and I don't know why, what are some of the most common causes of faulty gears (or derailers) and how to prevent/fix them.

Not to take the wind out of your sails but at the cost of that bike and it's components, it is just about a disposable bike. They retailed for less than $200 and can be found on the web for $100-150. The repairable of that price bike is very low.

The best thing you can do is go to a bike shop and talk with them. You most likely can get a cheap Kick stand from them for very little money, but if the gears are shot even that could be a waste of money.

As far as gears are concerned there are too many possibilities that could be wrong to list here, and any advice given here would just be speculation without a lot more info. It could be a turn of a screw driver to adjust something or total replacement.

You might want to pick a bike repair book (at the library or book store if you are going to ride a lot) and read it to see what might be wrong, and how to get the most out of your equipment.

The cost of a new drive components and labor to fix it could be more than the cost of the bike if you can't do it yourself. If you go to a Independent Bike Dealer they can assess what is wrong and help you determine if fixing it is cost effective or moving to a newer bike.

Thanks alot for the information, I will definetly look up Bike gears and see if thier fixable, in the meantime though if I tell you that the gears on my right-hand side are reluctant to switch and for some reason my left-hand gears won't go above 2 (medium) does that give you enough info to make a bare-bones analysis?

You most likely have some type of thumb levers that shift your gears , located on the handlebars. When you try to shift gears on the right side thumb lever , does the rear ( rear wheel gears) Derailleur move? if not then your problem could be in your shifters or your cable . The shifters could be frozen up or your cables could be bad. A WD-40 flush could unfreeze the levers , cables are inexpensive. Same thing goes for the left side shift lever which shifts the chain on the big gears on the crank. As far as the kick stand , you can pick up a one cheap at Walmart when you go get a set of cables for $4.99. Unless the bike's a special keepsake, be careful you don't spend too much on it getting it back on the road . It's a good bike to learn to do things on . kirby
