Cleaning up a melted gum brake hoods
I have a mid 80s Fuji bike and the gum brake hoods apparently did a melting act. I was able to remove them for replacement purposes but they were very hard and sticky and there are little bits of residue stuck tight to the brakes and hardware. Not alot just enough to make my job a little harder.
Any tips on cleaning the bits of stuck on melted gum hood?
Thanks!

you might want to try the 'Tar and Bug' remover for cars that they sell in the car-wash and detailing dept. I've also found that Goop is great on a lot of things, put it on, let it sit a while, you might just surprise yourself.
You may have to do it in several stages, maybe even 'convince' it to come off with a non-marring scraper like a plastic putty knife.
Hope this helps,

What kind of bike is it, and what year? (not that I have anything to say about the hoods, I'm just a fan of old Fuji bikes )

Hair dryer, maybe? It works like a charm on old stickers/decals...

Mid 80's Fuji League. Killer condition. I just got it about a week ago. I will post some photos in the classic forum after I get the Brooks saddle on it and the handlebar re-taped with new hoods.
