cable jammed in rsx shifter

The cable is jammed so that the rear shifter will not return to the position which would allow the cable end to be removed from the entry port. No amount of prodding, poking or pulling has budged it. If I am unable to see the end of the cable, I not sure how to remove and I have tried everything I can think of to expose end. Any ideas?

good luck... i bought a bike that had the cables cut off just at the end of the shifter and it took me like 2 hours of getting pissed off before i got them out. Eventually i used the new cable i was putting in to push the old ones out.
