New bike noise

Just got a GT Transeo 1.0, and it has Deore front and Deore LX in the rear. When I'm on the 2nd chainring, and pedaling HARD, I hear a noise similar to when the chain rubs the front derailleur, but it does it in all gears, not just at the extremes when only on that ring, and the clearance looks fine. First ring, and Third ring I dont hear the sound. It's hard for me to tell if it's front or rear sounding. Normal pedaling, everything is quiet, it's only when hammering down.

My question...what possibly is this, and is it ok to ride like this for a 100 miles or so before taking it back to the shop?

Thanks!
S.

hmm, its probably alright... my guess would be flex in the crank set / bottom bracket is causing the chain to either engage the teeth of the chainring at an odd angle or touch the front derailleur cage causing the noise when you are really pedaling hard. Of course if you want to be safe you can always ask the mechanic at your LBS to take a look at it before the 100 mile tune.

Is it normal for the chain to rub against the derailleur a bit? Or only in certain gears? I've taken it to my LBS 2 times now and it keeps happening. It's a new Trek 1.2 - seems fine at the shop and then makes noise during my ride. Any ideas?

is it normal?

I have a new Trek 1.2 and it seems that the chain is continuing to rub up against the derailleur?. I've taken it to my LBS 2 times. It seems fine at the shop but on my ride it rubs (I can hear the noise and when I turn the bike upside down, it's rubbing on the outside of the derailleur (the silver part that's right about the cassette). I'm a newbie so hopefully my terminology is right. Any ideas?

Chain rub is unavoidable in certain extreme gear combos, notably small/small or big/big. Can't do anything about it.

Are you trying to say that the guide pulley is rubbing on the cassette? If that is the case it's only a b-tension adjustment that is needed. If you are not familiar with the terms read this page and get back to us:

So it's the silver thing above the ring of chains - the chain keeps rubbing up against that - does that make sense?

new chain noise gone!

My new noise is gone. I think I had the front derailleur on the first gear and the back was in the same - chain fell off - it was a mess - but amazingly enough I fixed it - I think I just need to get more info. on shifting - I think I was shifting like a mad women and didn't need to.
