    Rim wear gauge?

    Hello,
I've been searching the forums trying to find a subjective way to find out when I need to replace my rims. So far, the best (pretty much only) method I have seen is to feel the rims to see if they are concave. If so, the rims have noticable wear and may need to be replaced.

Is there any more "scientific" way to detect wear than this? What would the LBS do?

I'd like to think my rims in question have a wear gauge, but I don't think they do and I'm not sure who makes them. They came on my 2000 Giant Sedona so are likely inexpensive.

    Thanks,
    Jason

If your rim had a wear guage they'd look at that. If not they'd feel it. Nothing more to it really. You don't want to play with fire here. Anyone with experience would be able to tell when a rim should be replaced.

Thanks; I figured "LBS experience" would be one answer. I may just bring the wheels in or something.
