Seatpost Clamps??

how would a clamp be installed on a frame?? i dont udnerstand...sorry if this is a noob question

The tube has a slot cut in it which allows the diameter of the tube to shrink around the seat post as the clamp is tightened. The clamp isn't physically attached but is held on through pressure and friction.
