Post script: Tire exploded
After writing last week about how my tire blew while in the garage, I checked what others had to say about the Specialized Pro Roubaix tires on RoadbikeReview.com. Turns out there were others who had the same thing happen with their 2007 model.
I took the wheels to my LBS and they too were familiar with the problem. They offered to warranty both the blown tire and the other one, since I didn't feel very safe riding on it, and gave me full credit toward any tires of my choice.
One other follow up to original post. I mentioned that I inflated them to 125 psi. That is the recommended max on the sidewall, so they were not over inflated after all. My new Vredesteins are rated to 175 psi, although I'll not be running them nearly that hard.
I was very pleased with the service from my LBS. It appears there may be a suspect batch of tires from Specialized. It sure would be nice if Specialized let people know it.

I think that if Specialized knew that there was a problem with their tires they'd tell people.
