replacing brake levers with non-aero levers?

hey all,

this will probably be silly question; i have replaced brake cables before on my system but never the levers themselves. i am interested in these dia-compe 204. can anyone help me understand if these go with my current tektro cantilevers, replacing the current shimano BLR-400 aerobrake levers?

thanks!

Why would you want to replace the excellent shimano levers with something much more inferior? The new levers you want are the old style where the brake cable exits at the top of the lever instead of being run along the inside of a drop bar.

The Dia Compe levers won't have as much leverage as the aero style levers. Most aero levers are better ergonomically when riding and braking from the hoods than the the old style non-aero levers also. I think the Dia Compe levers on the Velo Orange site are mostly for folks who want to retain an old-school look on an old bike.

If it's the gum-colored hoods you like, gum colored hoods are available for Cane Creek SCR-5 aero levers. They're excellent brake levers, and not too expensive-

You should be able to replace just the hoods and leave the levers untouched.
