Anybody have been able make this combination to work? A travel agent will do? Looks like the TA do not contemplate this combination?

Yeah, that should be fine if you put the brake-lever cable on the small pulley and the V-brake cable on the larger pulley. However, don't like the linear action. Tioga/Odyssey used to make a cable-hanger pulley that used a scroll/Nautilus type of pulley for fast immediate motion to move the pads in, then the leverage increased for more clamping-force and easier modulation.
