    Sachs 3x7 hub

    Hi,

I'm using a 8 cogs from a Shimano 9 spd cluster for this hub to make it a 3x8, so, will a set of 3x8 Ultegra bar end shifters work for this hub? I know the right hand index will shift the 8 outer cogs, but will the L/H friction shifter work with the 3 internal gears?

I don't think any bar-end shifter will reliably shift the internal hub gears. Apparently these hube are pretty intolerant of shifter position and "close enough is good enough" won't cut it. Why not use the correct Sachs shifter for the hub?

I don't know about the 3-speed part but I know about the 8-speed part.

You need a 9-speed shifter because your 8 cogs have 9-speed spacing. In other words, the 8-speed shifter won't work.

Good catch! I missed that part entirely.
