fork/headset compatibility - different threading?

I'm looking to pick up an older road bike fork. Most of the ones I'm looking at tend to be Italian made.

Will I have a problem mating a 1" threaded fork to a Shimano 1" threaded headset? Are the threads different? (I have read yes and no on this...)

Can I solve this problem by getting a Campagnolo headset?

Anyone with experience in this realm let me know. Thanks!

The thread diameter and pitch are the same for "English" and "Italian" threaded headsets so they will interchange. The thread profiles are slightly different (60° included angle for English threads vs 55° for Italian) so repeatedly changing back and forth is not recommended but using a Shimano headset on an Italian fork will be no problem.

Thanks for that, HillRider! One more answer out of you and I'm going to have to start paying you a fee:)

Oh...got the new calipers on my friend's road bike finally. Had to find an iron shop to drill it, as I'm without my full set of tools for the summer. The new performance and stopping distance are great and she feels vastly safer on her bicycle.

Thanks again!

Beware of the two 1' standards, IS and JIS. They're a few tenths of a mm off each other. Little enough to fool the eye and too big to be ignored.

Italian made forks will all have ISO crown race seats. The problem, if there is one, will be with the frame's headtube.
