My stem size?
Can anyone help me with finding my stem size? I have a circa 1992 Trek 930 mountain bike with a quill stem and I want to replace it. I removed the stem and looked but nothing stamped on it was immediately recognizable as a size. Anyone know for sure or know how I could find out?

Ummm, yea. I am pretty sure you could measure it, with a ruler or something.

I believe it is measured center to center. So from the center of the down stem tube to the center of the clamp that holds the handlebar.

OK. Knowing that the differences between sizes are small and that I've ruined more than my fair share of projects because I couldn't measure accurately I decided to ask around in hopes of finding someone who KNEW the answer. If I have to I'll take it to the LBS for comparison before I feel safe spending $ on a new one.
