Can I Tap & die threadless fork to threaded???

I am trying to buy a carbon fork on ebay. I want to buy a threaded fork but most of them are threadless it seems. Could I use a tap and die set to add threads to a threadless fork?

thx :)

Would not be smart, usually carbon forks have carbon steerers.

not usually, its about half and half. nonetheless, it wouldn't be smart, at least on the 1 1/8" forks becuase the reason for the 1 1/8" is so that they could be oversized w/ thinner walls and have the same stiffness w/ less weight. so basically, you wouldn't want to do it.

The wall thickness is not enough to support threads. Also, most shop dies are cut to chase threads rather than make threads, it would be hard on the die ($50-75 for resharpening. They do not have much lead so are hard to get started as well.
