Replace wheel with 140 mm rear hub spacing?
I have a Giant Hybrid bike that I've modified to be a commuter. I am looking at replacing the wheels, but I was wondering about the spacing on the rear. I tried to measure between the dropouts on the inside and it seems like it's 140 mm. Most road wheels I see are for 130 mm spacing. I noticed that on the non-drive side there's a washer or spacer on the axle that seems to be about 10 mm long. Can I add this to a standard 130 mm wide wheel somehow (assuming the skewer is long enough)? Or do I need to get a wheel designed for 140 mm dropouts?
Is it normal to be able to replace hybrid wheels with road wheels? The current wheel is 700c but with wide rims, something like 19 or 20 mm.

Most likely it's a 135mm rear spacing which is standard for MTB rear hubs. When you search for wheels, look for either "touring" or 29er MTB wheels. They will be 700c and wider than standard road rims (assuming you want that). You could use a standard road rear wheel with 130mm rear spacing by adding an extra 5mm spacer on the non-drive side but it will require redishing the wheel. Or you could build your own rear wheel using a road rim and 135mm MTB rear hub.
