anybody know ?? about proflex
I just got a 855 proflex with girwin forks the elastometors in the front and back shocks are gone the rest of the bike is in perfect shape.What I would like to know is the cheapest way to replace them with springs I like to do this at home I don't want to send it some were to have somebody else do it so If anybody has an idea on were I can buy the parts please let me know thanks

Bikes: like 15. my favorite a 1951 schwinn spitfire cruiser. also have a 1959 amf roadmaster, 1962 jch deluxe cruiser among others.

i put a pair of these girvin front forks on my paramount in 01' and at the time, they made a spring conversion kit, but i don't remember who. bottom line, i was unimpressed with their fork handling, but they look cool. good luck.

Girvin/Proflex became K2. You might try looking at their web site. Maybe (?) they still have elastomers for sale? I used Girvin Flexstems, which featured elastomer "front suspension".

The Proflex elastomers were an odd size you won't find in forks.
There used to be a K2/Proflex forum. Google to see if it's still around.
A trick they had there was to microwave the old elastomers to restore them.
The other option for the front is to check the eye to eye distance (center to center) of the shock and replace it with something off Ebay. As long as you keep the eye to eye the same you're OK to go.
The rear will be another issue since it used that funky strut setup. Some Rube Golderg'ing will be needed to patch in a real shock and spring. Or see if you can source some replacement elastomers.
They were one of the nicer bikes in their day so it's worth playing around with it to get it working well. But sometimes progress marches on and leaves the previous winners in its wake. Good luck with keeping it running.
