Cable housing question

I noticed some wear, looks almost like a slice in the rear break cable housing, how can I tell (other than the brake getting soft/sloppy/epic failing) if the cable took some damage, do I need to pull the whole thing to check?

If the cable housing is broken, you should replace immediately. That's pretty dangerous.

You need to pull the cable to change the house anyway, so you can check the cable then. It wouldn't hurt to change the cable anyway. They're cheap.

Cool, thanks...I'll take a closer look, the housing looks like it's got a nick in it, the nick goes through the plastic, but I couldn't tell how deep it was this morning when I noticed it.

Brake housing is armoured metal covered with plastic. If just the plastic outer housing is nicked (sounds like it) then you are fine.

when in doubt, change it out. especially when brakes and safety are involved. even a tear in just the plastic housing is enough that eventually, moisture can find it's way through the reat of the housing and onto your cable. i'd replace them. cheap to do so, and you'll know it's fixed and safe.

If it is just the plastic and not the inner metal, maby try to seal the cut with silicone or duck tape. Ducktape is suposed to be waterproof

OMG, you're not going to actually ride it with a split casing, are you? ROFLMAO
The only thing the casing does is keep moisture out and look pretty.
