    Help with 1998 Rock Shox SID forks

    I have acquired a used GT XCR 4000 bike equipped with 1998/99 Rock Shox SID front suspension. I have read several books on shock maintenance but see no reference to these shocks. Since my bike is about 10 years old, I need to know how to pump up the shocks and test for serious leaks.
    I think these shocks are air shocks but don't know for sure! The shocks are painted blue and are marked SID!
    My bike is also equipped with a Cane Creek AD-12 rear shock and I have purchased a pump to pressurize it. I hope to use the pump on the front shocks but don't know where the air valve is located.
    Any help is appreciated...

    You need a SID adaptor to work with your pump.

    It screws into the small hole on, as I remember, the top of the left leg.

    See what your full travel is, probably 80mm, then adjust your fork to saga about 20% of that when you just put your body weight on it. Same goes for the shock.

    Thanks Chuck! I can't find A theaded hole big enough for the fitting you show. On the top of both shock legs there is a small phillips head screw. I thought that there could be a small place under the screw to insert a football needle but I didn't want to open up the port untilI am sure.
    It seems that these older SIDs are totally different than newer ones. I couldn't find any drawings or pictures on the WEB that match my forks.

    TMB_SIDS_Service_November_1998.jpgI have a 1998 SID, and one leg is loosing air at the air plug valve.
    The 98 uses an air valve system just like a basketball.

    So i need a new air plug, which is just a little cylindrical rubber thingy.
    Anyone know where I can find one, or some DIY method like using some rubber from a rubber ducky ?

    If I dont find a air plug, Im thinking about drilling the top cap, and insert a auto valve, and making it stick and not loose air.

    The simplest method would getting some air plugs with classic air valves from a later SID.
    But cant find any in my area.
    Expanding my cyclingaddiction.
