Noise coming from freehub when coasting

I just installed a campy freehub on my powertap, i did not add any lube, it makes a slight grinding noise when coasting... do i need to pull it back apart and add some lube somewhere? if so, what should I use?

Is it a new or a used (overhauled) freehub? Eventually, did you take it apart and (re)assemble it yourself? In that case you should know if you lubed it or not.

Anyway, it should never run "dry".

I always apply a fine ball bearing grease for freewheels. (Some people prefer oil since they claim grease will make pawls stick, but I never experienced that in over 30 years).

Since freehubs are not exactly as "user servicable" as freewheels, taking it apart is not an option for most people. Remove the freehub from the wheel and spray some good quality (teflon) oil in it. Spin it, listen carefully and eventually repeat the process. It should spin smoothly, with nearly no resistance at all, when holding it in with your fingers.

If rusted oil soakes out, obviously, you'll know what's wrong with it.
