Restoring a 7-speed Drive Train on a Hybrid

I'm currently commuting on an old Schwinn Frontier (circa 2001) that I rescued from my son's garage. It came with grip shifters that were banged up and inoperable when I got it. I did a temporary fix by disconnecting the front derailler, and putting a $1.99 thumbshifter on for the rear. I'd like to go ahead and get this drive train fully operational but I'm not sure what is compatiable. It has a triple in the front with a seven-speed rear. The derailler just says Shimano SIS. So any ideas on either a trigger shifters (preferred) or a grip shifters that I can purchase that will work? Thanks!

Virtually any Shimano-branded 7-speed shifters will work. But 7-speed Shimano trigger shifters are getting a little hard to find. If you get the variety that is integrated with the brake lever, then you need to make sure the brake lever is for the correct type of brakes- cantilever or V-brakes - otherwise the braking may suffer.

7sp pods are NOT hard to find. alivio ones are about 30bucks for the set. Including cables and housing.

Thanks for the replies. I found shifter-only Alivio sets online that should do the trick.

    Appreciate the pointer.
