Campi first position gear thickness question

I purchased a Campi 10 speed record cassette (13/29) when I built up our tandem. (The front gears are 28/39/53.) I replaced the 13 with a 12 tooth, but we are spinning it out on the downhills. I want to replace the 12 tooth with a 11 tooth first position gear. However, there is a gear thickness problem. The 12 and 13 tooth gears are 4.95mm thick and the 11 tooth is 5.29mm. Anybody have any idea why the difference in thickness and is there a workaround? I guess I can always mill the 11 tooth to 4.95mm.
Thanks

The 11 tooth campy cog is special.. You must have both the 11t and 12t special, that connect together to make the 1st 2 gear positions You could get the miche versions for a lot less than the same 2 campy cogs..

Thanks for the quick response. Will your solution work with all the other gears that are 4.95mm thick? I checked the link you sent. Definitely cheaper than Campi.
Thanks

Like I said the 11t cog and 12t cog for that are married together.. while the cog is thicker, the way it fits into the 12t cog makes it the same as the 13/14 first 2 position cogs you have now..

Thanks SoCal. I suspect that your solution will work with an 11/13 also. The casette gear set is 13-14-15-16-17-19-21-23-26-29. Ultimately, I want to build a 11/13/15....
Thanks again

Danno, you must be an animal. We are spun out at around 42mph (oops, checked the stats - 49mph). The old legs won't go much more than 130 rpm. I won't even try to spin at 60+mph.

That will not work.. The 12t that goes with an 11 is special.. It is made specifically for the 11t first position cog to work properly. It is slotted so the 11t cog literally fits inside the 12t special..

another solution is getting an ird campy cassette.. 11-28

Thanks again SoCal. You are the first person that has been able to explain the problem to me. I'll look into the ird, but I have already sunk a fair bit of change into the bike. I might just call it a day.
Regards
