Crank/Bearing Question, Please Help

Hello All,

I have a 2 month old Specialized Allez. I've ridden at least 50 miles a week on it since September.

Sometimes when I ride, I feel a click from the right pedal when it reaches the top of the stroke. It only occurs on the right side. Sometimes it is barley noticeable, sometimes it is hard to ignore. It doesn't happen all the time, it seems to come and go at random, but was obvious all day today.

I have treated the bike well so far, so I'm a little concerned that something may be seriously wrong.

Any ideas what might be causing this?

Thanks.

Since the bike's fairly new, why not have the shop you bought it from check it?

If it were my bike, I'd remove the pedals, grease the threads, and put them back on tight. After that, I'd verify that every fastener in & around the crankset was tight. If the noise was still happening after that, I'd check to make sure the bottom bracket was installed correctly.

A new bicycle requires an adjustment period during which it's expected for some bolts/bearings,etc to loosen up and require attending to. Your LBS that you bought this from should do this gratis (free) during the first 6 months or so. Different shops have different policies. For some, they will adjust the bike, free, for life. Give 'em a call and take it on down. Don't be overly concerned. This is normal.

The fixed cup may be loose, which should not be happening, regardless of mileage. Definitely haul it down to the LBS.

Noises should be tracked down. Unfortunately there's nothing you can do short of checking every single thing on the bike to eliminate it. There is no quick answer.

Are you wearing cleated shoes or using clipless pedals?

Thanks for all the replies.

I'll get the bike down to the LBS this week.

The pedals are regular bike pedals, and I'm wearing normal shoes.

If it had just been a noise, I wouldn't have been too worried about it. Feeling something at the same point in the stroke was what worried me. It's just a little tick, but I was worried that it might be signaling big problems and that I should stop riding immediately to avoid horrible damage.
