Flange offsets on Shimano hub
Hey,
I have the Shimano DH-3D71 generator hub. Does anyone know if the flange offsets on this hub are equal on the left and right hand side? The lack of information from Shimano about this is pretty bad.
Thanks!

Measure from the frame nut to left flange and then frame nut to right flange. Assuming the axle screw is adjusted properly, this will tell whether you have a symmetrical hub (usually a typical front hub) or an offset hub (typcial for rear hubs).
To get the "width from center to (left or right) flange" measurement (a measurement used in spoke length calculators) ... measure your frame nut to nut distance. I'll use a standard 135mm measurement as an example. Half of 135mm is 67.5. If you measured 67.5 from each frame nut, this point on the hub would be the centerline of the bike/fram/rim. With an offset hub (ie rear hub), this point will NOT be centered between the spoke flanges. With a symmetrical front hub, this point would be centered between the flanges.
Measure from the right frame nut to the right flange. My example is 48.5. The "width from center" to right flange would be 19.0mm (67.5-48.5mm). The left flange measurement is 31.5 giving me a "width to center" to the left flange of 36.0 (67.5-31.5).

Does this help?
https://bike.shimano.com/catalog/cycl...45524441776487
It lists the following dimensions:
Flange Distance 52.3mm (presumably distance from flange to flange)
Offset 3.85mm (presumably offset to the side away from the disk)
Hole Referance (PCD) 74mm (presumably the diameter of the spoke hole circle)
4mm is a pretty minor offset. I'll bet the spoke lengths come out with 0.1mm of each other.
