Brazed FD adapter?
Can a brazed FD be adapted to fit to frame not designed to accommodate a brazed derailer? If so, is it just a clamp-on adapter?

Shimano makes a clamp-on adapter that allows their brazed FD to be mounted on a frame not designed to accommodate a brazed derailer. I don't know about other brands of FD.

Thanks. I'm going to be putting a Shimano 105 brazed FD on a Trek 1.2 frame. Does anybody know offhand what size tube that is?

Wrap a piece of paper around the seat tube. Mark where it overlaps. Measure that distance in millimeters. Divide by 3.14. That's your answer.

Take it to your local good LBS and have them Mic the tube or pull out the seat post until you can read the diameter of the seat post. Most are scribed. I have been using the adaptors for years since I buy and sell frames over the years that have different ST diameters. Adaptors are much cheaper than the derailluers. Good luck.

For the vast majority of bikes, the seat tube OD is one of three sizes: 1-1/8" (28.6 mm), 1-1/4" (31.8 mm) or 1-3/8" (34.9 aka 35 mm). Even eyeballing a ruler should tell you which you have.
If there was an old clamp-on fd, look inside the clamp as the diameter is usually engraved there.
