Are Nitto Stems Anodized?

I'm thinking of updating the bars/stem on my 80s Motobecane. The steerer is the french 22mm. I was thinking of getting a Nitto stem but was wondering if they are anodized or just polished.

The Nitto stem on my '87 C-dale is anodized black (and beginning to show a patina of red-bronze) and is very good-looking, IMHO. The bike was done in black as a marketing effort, so the brakes, bar, hubs, seat post, and brake levers are all in black as well.

Could be that it was a one-off product.

Happy new year.

Nitto stems are clear anodized. Polishing them requires that you first remove the anodizing with oven cleaner. I just recently polished a technomic deluxe. The anodizing must be extra thick because it took a dozen applications of Easy Off to remove all of it.

That's kind of what I figured. What grit did you stop sanding with? Also, what was your method of polishing? I have a few wheels. A medium wheel with white rouge and a soft wheel with tripoli. I might end up getting another wheel for jewelers rouge. Just wanted to see what your method was as that stem looks very nice.

Every time I see a different bike of yours they seem to look better than the last. I just flipped through the photos, there is no way that paint is original...

If its anything like this then it is a Black Lightning based off the Criterium 3.0 frame. The more recent Black Lightning was for their 30th anniversary. Maybe this was for their 20th?

Yes, that's very similar to mine. Mine doesn't have the Cannondale crest on the forks, and the front derailleur has gold metal. Mine has a Cinelli saddle, which I think was original. My changes include replacing the Sugino 52-42 crank with a Campy Mirage 50-34 compact and the SunTour 6-speed freewheel with a SunRace 7-speed.

The numbers say mine was made in 1987.

Cheers and happy new year.
