Tightening Axle Nuts on an IGH - Help!

It's been a long time since I've had a bike without QR skewers but now I have a bike with a Nexus IGH. Looking for some help on how to go about tightning the axle nuts correctly. When I tighten the one on the drive side, the assembly (don't know the right terminology here) that holds the cable moves with it as I tighten so that instead of being parallel with the ground, it's pointing up and putting a lot of slack in the outer housing. I redid it and just held that piece by hand while I tightened the nut, but that can't be the right answer. So what should I be doing? TIA!

sounds like you don't have the anti-rotation washer installed correctly.

Sounds like you may not have the anti-rotation washers installed. These should engage the flats on the axle and the dropout slot.

Thanks! That sounds like the answer. I didn't pay attention to the orientation of those (didn't realize what they were) when I put them back on. I'll check it out when I get home tonight!

Upon further analysis, it appears my bike did not come with anti-rotation washers. What I have is a plate with two tabs that fit in the dropout, but it doesn't engage the axle in any way. I bought the bike online and I fired off an email to the seller today. I guess worst case I can order a pair from Harris.
