Chain issue
Last fall I bought a Craigs List mountain bike for the parts. I rode it as is enough to know it worked great. I then bought a frame and moved all the parts over. I now have a problem. When in the middle chainring the chain sometimes doesn't release as it comes around to the bottom of the ring. After an inch or two of chain wraps up it all releases with a clunk.

Stiff link where the chain was rejoined? Though I'd think you'd have similar problems on all your chainrings and cogs.

It sounds like the middle chainring is worn down enough that it doesn't release the chain properly. Look at the teeth on the middle chainring, and if they are shaped kinda like a sharks fin, it's time to replace it.
