Modding a Sugino crank to accept a third chainring
I've got a Sugino Mighty Competition crank I'd like to use as a triple. This is a 144 BCD NR clone.
Willow triple adapters don't seem to be available, and the TA ones are pretty spendy, considering that they are a wear item. I'll do the TA as a last resort, but I've seen some examples of people getting cranks machined/drilled to accept a third chainring, wondering if anyone has done that and if so, a recommendation on where to get this sort of work done. Local in the Washington, D.C. area would be nice if this were possible. Thanks! |
Cranks like this?
http://www.schoellerfamily.org/bikes...s-20040808.jpg There doesn't look to be a lot of material in there so I would not advise having them drilled and tapped. A machine shop should be able to do it but it might cost as much as getting a cheap triple crank and rings. |
