    Sunrace Freewhweels?

I have located a freewheel, a five speed, to replace my old MAEDA "perfect". Apparently Shimano doesn't make these anymore. The MFG is Sunrace. Only 19.99.

Are these any good? Are these Taiwanese? I'm kinda assuming they are.

Shimano never made MAEDA "Perfect" freewheels. Sun Tour did and they have been out of business for many years.

Sunrace freewheels (and cassettes for that matter) are decent, and are Taiwanese as you surmise. They don't shift as well as Shimano's current cassettes or freewheels but they do ok and the prices are attractive.

Sun Tour was the "bicycle parts" brand name for Maeda Industries.

    IRD makes excellent freewheels in 5, 6, 7 - speed. Here's a link:

They* did have Suntour 'Winner' and 'New Winner's' in stock awhile back - NOS. You could give 'em a call and enquire if they still had any floating around. Those were/are great freewheels.
