oil?
So when I pedal my bike squeaks. I know it is not the pedals it is something near the bike i.e. derailleur or something similar, I lubed my chain so my question is what do I use to lube the plates of the derailleur and such?

By plates on the derailleur do you mean the front derailleur cage? Or the jockey wheels on the rear derailleur? In either case a bit of your chain lube on the moving parts of a derailleur will work fine...

If you lubed the chain and the drive train is still squeaking, it needs to be cleaned. Get yourself a light degreaser of some kind (I use citrus stuff but there are lots of options) and a tooth brush and go to work on the chain, derailleur pulleys, and chainrings. Then a few drops of lube on the chain rollers and RD pivot points and squeaking should stop.

It could be someting else, like the bottom bracket - cranck joints; that is a notorious squeaker.

Spray the entire bike with WD-40. I do that all the time for noises.
No, wait a minute,......I've never done that.
Olive Oyl might help. She was a great help to Popeye.

Make sure all of the chain ring mounting bolts are properly tightened. I had a really hard to find squeak one time and that is where it turned out to be coming from.
