Changing gears

I've got a pair of Shimano XT Unishift SL-M700 MTB friction shifters that were use on 15 and 18 speed bike. How do I make them work on a 21 speed Raleigh SC30?

If they are friction shifters, they will work on nearly any number of speeds. In index mode, they will work only on the number of rear cogs they were designed for.

Ooooh, those are purdy!!

You would use them as they were on the older bike system. Since they are friction, as long as there is enough travel, the 21 speed will shift fine.

Thanks guys, I was hoping someone would say that. I gave $25 for the pair, is that a good deal?

I'm using very similar ones on my 8 speed. (86 RockHopper, so they were originally 6 or 7)
They're just too nice to "upgrade" to indexed!
