Sram t3 Gripshifter

Hey all,
my wifes dutch bike has the aforementioned sram t3 gripshifter (latest model). The gear cable was frayed so I whipped it out and proceeded to try and fit another one. However, no matter what I try, the darn cable will not thread through the top end of the shifter to the bottom end of the shifter. According to srams technical sheet, it should magically thread through. The only advice that it has given me is to keep it in 3rd gear. If anyone knows of a magic tip to thread the cable through I will be eternally grateful, as such a simple, run of the mill process has left me frustrated and scratching my head.

Try removing the shifter from the handlebars, dissassembling it, and see if any of these frayed cable bits are still in there. As a 3 speed shifter, it shouldn't be that complicated.

Thanks for the reply, thats part of the problem, if they came apart threading the cable would be very simple, but they dont seem to diassemble (ie click apart). Im aware that some grip shifters dont come apart, and until im certain that these ones come apart I am unsure whether to try and force them apart. I used a screw driver to try and prise them apart but this just bent the plastic, have since tried to put a kink in the cable to see if that will guide it through.

Sometimes putting the shifter into gear #1 works. Either the 1st or highest gear will give the cable a straight shot to the barrel adjuster end. Some Sram twist shifters have a flip up/slide out cover or 'escape hatch' and set screw. In any case, it should be pretty easy once you figure out which gear the shifter should be in. The Sram twist shifter on my GF's cruiser bike is numbered opposite of the pictures in the online manuals.

According to the schematic on Sram's Technical page, it looks like the shifter can be disassembled when removed from the bars. The central section has 3 tabs that need to be compressed to release the gripshift.
