framesaver prep suggestions?

I'd like to hit my old steel frame with framesaver. Inside the tubes I detect rust flakes.

Curious about proper framesaver prep. Are people brushing insides of tubes to remove rust flakes before applying framesaver?

thanks

If you've got actual flakes (as opposed to just a surface coating of rust), I'd certainly try to brush out the tubes.

Get a shotgun cleaning rod and a 10 or 12 ga bronze or stainless steel cleaning brush and swap out the inside of all of the tubes you can reach. You want to have a reasonably clean surface for the Framesaver to coat.

If you have some serious flakes, you need to do an oxalic acid soak first. Do a search for oxalic, lots of threads on that topic.

I may have mis-spoken, it's more of a surface coating if memory serves. I'll have the frame stripped down this coming weekend to confirm. thx to all for the tips. cheers
