Help with tight BB install
Just got a '85 Trek frame. Moving an Octalink BB from another frame to Trek.
The drive side of the BB will screw all the way in by itself, same with the non drive side.
The BB will slide together easily outside of the frame.
When I go to put the BB in the frame and the 2 meet it is very hard to wrench them into each other.
I have had this happen before with a different BB and frame before.
Is it just expansion of the BB inside the frame?

First, make sure you've got the correct width BB for the frame's BB shell (68 or 73mm). IIRC, the proper installation order for the octalink BB should be to fully screw in the drive side (+whole BB) and torque it to the correct (large) value, then screw in the non-drive side and tighten it to close to the same torque. I usually start threading in the non-drive side a bit once the drive side is finger tight, then torque the drive side, then finish screwing in the NDS. The NDS doesn't have to screw all the way in until all its threads are hidden.
If that's not what you were asking, could you explain in more detail what you mean by "wrench them into each other"? Any photos would be nice.

i just went through the same thing with my BB.
i have a concept and i put in a 7710BB
this is how i installed it
grease anything that will have contact
thread in drive side in all the way with your hand
thread in non drive side all the way with your hand (mine was sticking out 2-3mm)
torque drive side to manufacture spec
torque down non drive side to spec (when i torqued this down it went in all the way, everying is flush)
done
if your non drive side still stick out a couple of mm, leave it, this is normal on some bikes, just make sure you grease everything and torque down to spec and your fine.
