Manufacturer Fork Steerer Tube Spacer Recommendations
I'm looking to install a 1" Nashbar/Winwood carbon fork with an aluminum steerer, which comes with the same manufacturer's recommendation of no more than 25mm of spacers regardless of whether to steerer is 1" or 1-1/8" and regardless of whether the steerer is carbon, aluminum or steel.
First, I realise that the Nashbar/Winwood fork is not a higher end component, but I find it odd (and perhaps overly conservative) that the spacer limit is documented as the same for a 1" carbon steerer as it is for a 1" steel or 1-1/8" aluminum steerer.
Regardless, let's say that I adhere to the 25mm limit - if I place the 25mm of spacers under the stem (which i'm fine with as far as the resulting handlebar height goes, but I wouldn't want to go any lower), can I still run a 5mm or 10mm spacer above the stem to give some latitude in case I ever need to install a stem with a taller clamp height than the one I have now? Or would this pose a safety hazard?

Sorry - perhaps I wasn't clear as to my question. I know there isn't a problem stacking spacers above the stem, but can that be done IN ADDITION to the maximum amount of spacers (in this case 25mm) recommended? So effectively there would be 25mm below the stem, and then another 10mm above the stem.
